"Pottersville (S. Ce), Dece 2, 1826-Elisha Melton was hung
yesterday for the murder of Lewis Clark, He asserted
while under the gallows, we are informed, that the act he
committed was in self-defense; that two witnesses had sworr
falsely against him; cautioned those who are in habits of
intoxication, of the danger of their course; and ended by
declaring his willingness to die, But what rendered the
scene most touching to the spectators, was the presence of
his wife and children in tears, witnesses of the solemn
spectacle} (REPUBLICAN.)" COURIER, Charleston, SC, 12-9-
1826 (2-54)

"Pottersville was renamed Landrumville and is in Edgefield
County. Landrumville appears on the 1825 Mills Atlas map
of that county near the town of Edgefield, It does not
appear many of the modern highway maps, prokably having
been incorporated into Edgefield proper." Informatmon
