for the murder of Mrse Betty McDonald on Feb. 19, 1866;
victim was an aged and highly respected lady of Washington
Township (Brockwayville), known as Aunt Betty and who
lived alone; robbery motive; Chasé who lived near Titus-
ville, worked for the victim's nephew, Roderick McDonald,
a manufacturer of shingls; this was the first hanging in
the county; it was supervised by Sheriff Nathan Farrier;
a police force numbering fifty handled the large crowd
on hand; a "multitude of curious people" was present; a
