Marui, a 45-year-old Japanese laborer, lived in Saddsas Co., Calif,
On Oct. 27, 1921, as he was going into town, she wife of a fellow
worker, Mrs, T. Shimtani, commissioned him to purchase a pair of
trousers for her small son, When he returned with the pants, she
complained that he had paid too mich for them and an argument ensued,
Marui brooded over the affair that night, convinced that she had
accused him of cheating her, and the next morning he went to the
Shimtani residence and shot and killed both Mrs, Shimtani and her

husband. Convicted and sentenced to die, he was hanged at San Quen-~
tin Prison on May ), 1923,

After the murder, he had fled into the hills in back of the town and
