"Donaldsonville, Lae, July 16, 1886-Sampson Roland, black,
hanged here today, In Feb,, 188, on the Houmas planta-
tion, nine miles from here, Roland shot and killed Benja-
min Geersdorf while the latter was under the influence of
liquor, The trouble between the two, it is believed, was
caused by a womane.ee.Went to death calmly....died of
strangulation,"
