Uriah Moyer was hanged at Middleburg on March 7, 1883. Both the Moyer

Moyer, a white veteran of the Union Army during th Civil War, lived
in Snyder Cos, Pas On the night of Dec, 2, 1877, John Kintzler, a
(T-year-old tinker, clock maker and fortune teller, and his wife,
Gretchen were murdered, robbed of $150 and their cabin set afire to
obliterate evidence of the crime, As Kintzler had a decidedly anti-
social personality, he was heartily disliked in the neighborhood and
for some time little was done to arrest his slayers. In 1876, Moyer,
his brother, Jonathan, Emanuel Ettinger and Israel irbawere arrested
and charged with the murders. Erb was tried first and afquitted and
all four were then released, Uriah Moyer went to Schooleraft, Mich,,
and could not be found when, in 1880, the other three men were re-
arrested and all convicted at individual trials and sentenced to die,
Uriah was taken into custody in Dece, 1881, and returned to Snyder
Coes where he also was convicted and sentenced to digs, On Oct, 21,
1881, Ettinger had committed suicide but before dying he had con-
fessed that he and Uriah alone had killed the Kintzlers though Jona-~
than had aided in the burning of the cabin, Erb received a commuta-~
tion of sentence but Jonathan Moyer was hanged in March, 1882, Uriah
cednfessed that he and Bttinger had committed the murders, absolving
