According to The Baltimore Sun 5-4-1854 (2:1)
an unidentified slave had been executed in Franklin
County sometime in April and on the following day
a mob set upon the hangman and nearly killed him.
He was tarred and feathered in addition to numerous
other indignities. The case of the slave in quest-
ion is unknown at this time.
