Bouchard, a l6-yeareold white man, had served terms in\the Washing-
ton S tate Prison and at San Quentin for Grand Larceny.) At one time
he had worked in Seattle, Wash., aS a paint salesman¢@nd in October,
1939; he was traveling in Washington with two transieht laborers
from Van Nuys, Calif., 32-year-old Ralph Atkinson and 28-year-old
Cyril Ables. Outside of Arlington, Washes he killed his two compan=
ions as they Slept with an axe and robbed them. Their bodies were
left in the woods and not discovered until the next March, Shortly
after the two bodies had been identified 9 Bouchard was arrested

in Portland driving an automobile belonging to one of his
victims, Convicted of the double mrder and sentenced to die, he
made no effort to save his life and told the Governor that he cid
not want executive clemency, He was hanged at the Washington State
Prison on September 6, 19h0,
