Executed, Clearfield, Pas, 3-2-1882 for the murder of
Samuel Pennington; shot him Rico warning on the street
on 2-17-1880; victim lived until “pril 18; Nevling lived
in a shanty near Houtzdale and was a Heavy drinker; pro=
cured a gun, met victim the day following andargument and
sho him; had drunk heavily before committing the crime;
was mobbed by irate citizens; at the executiédn he drama-
tically drew a dagger from inside his coat and threw it
to the floor where it stuck in the woods he triumphantly
stated: "They thought they had disarmed me but with all
their searching they did not find that"; he claimed that
the Devil had given it to him to commit suicides; case was
tried in May, 1880 term; maxx sentenced Jan. 10, 18813
