BROWN, Arthur Ross

Brown, a 29~year-old white man, had served time in a California pri«
son for arson. .His wife had moved to Kansas City, Moo, while he was
behind bars and after his release, he called her and threatened to
kill her if she did not return to him. He committed a burglary and
raped a woman in Galifornia and left for Kansas City after a warrant
was issued for his arrest for those crimes and for parole violation.
On dug. 4, 1955, he had just arrived in Kansas City and was broke. He
went to a shopping center and when.Mrs. Wilma Allen, the 3)-year~old
wife of an autombbile dealer entered her car, Brown jumped in on the
passenger side, waving a pistol, and forced her to drive to a dirt
rodd outside of “tanley, Kans.x There he forced Mrs. Allen into the
back seat and forcibly and brutally rappd her, Afterwards she started
screaming and he let her do so until she was exhausted and then shot
her in the head twice, took her money and left her body in a wooded
area before driving back to Kansas City and BEKM abandoning the car.
He then left “ansas City by bus and returned to California, shodting
and wouhding a Deputy “heriff in Wyoming on his way. He next showed
up in Kansas “ity in November and he then forced his wife into a
car at gunpoint and terrorized her for three hourse before releasing
her. <A few days later, he wrote to her from St. Joseph and she
