WHITE, Monroe

White, a 32-year-old black man, was employed as.a laborer in.Gary,
Ind. Early on the morning of August 2 , 1937, he entered’a lunch
room located on the corner of 17th and Washington Streets, Gary,
and attempted to rob the man in charge, Michael Patsis, ‘her
Patsis resisted, White shot and killed him, The case was tried in
Newton County on a change of venue and White there was convicted
on counts of murder in the perpetration of a robbery and xecond
degree murder. The first charge carried a death penalty which
White received, He was electrocuted at the Indiana State Prison
