LEWIS, Louis March 31, 1893

"Macon, Ga, March 31, 1893-Louis Lewis, colored, the
wife murderer, was hanged today in private at the jail
yard, #xantly at noon Sheriff Westcott sprung the trap
and Lewis! neck was broken, The execution was perfect

in every respect. There was no bungling whatever. Lewis
was absolutely calm throughout all the preliminaries

and to the very last moment. He professed religion and
said he was going straight to heaven, He maintained to
the last that he did not murderhis wife, but accidentally
shot here His body was shipped to relatives at Reynolds.!
