ed in hung jury due to testimony of Marlowe's wife and
mother-in-law who claimed they killed Bachman in defense
of Marlowe's wife. Second trial held in January, 1872,
and resulted in conviction, "Marlowe hung in Mayville
jail, This was the third and last execution of a human
being for a crime withing the limits of: Chautauqua Co,"
