ANAT CHCOM

Anatchcom, a Wiccomis Indian residing with others of his tribe ' a
shark small day's journey above the head of the Nanticoke River! on
the Eastern Shore of Maryland, whose wife had been 'killed at the
house of Wm. Hemsley, in Talbot County,' was captured by the rival
Ababcos tribe and charged with the murder of a Capt, Odber, He was
turned over to the settlers who took him to St. Mary's for trial on
May 7, 1669, The next day he was placed on trial before the Upper
House and testified that,while he was in the company of Indians that
had killed Odber, he did not kill him, He had been identified by
Mr, Henry Coursey and "a little Indian" and another Indian testified
at the trial that Anatchcom was the murderer, He was accordingly
convicted and shot to death that afternoon, May 8, 1669,
