summer had shot and killed his friend Edward Woody, also
black near Lumberton, ford had been courting Woody's
wife and when they got into argument, Ford drew pistol
and shot and killed Woody, Ford very tall while Woody
was much smaller, Hanged at 5 in afternoon, For lujech
that day had roast chicken and ordered ham and hard
boiled eggs for four o'clock (1 hour before execution),
wating heartily of both meals, While eating, told those
present that he was at peace with Maker, Wlaked to
gallows unassisted and, towering over guards who adjusted
straps, showed no emotion or concern, Mumbled a few un-
