"Muskogee, I, T., July 1, 1898-The two negroes, \K. B.
Brooks amd Charles Perkins, alias Henry Whitfield, who
were sentenced to hang by Judge John Thomas at the last
April term of United States court at this place, were
today executed in the jail yard. Both necks were broken
by the fall. Perkins admitted his guilt but claimed
that he acted in self-defense. He made a confession of
faith in the Catholic church,"
