door maker. He fell in love with Leila Page, owner of an Olympia
brothe%, and became her steady boyfriend. In the winter of 1902-1903,
a former lover of the prostitute. returned to Olympia and she took up
with him again. Clark began trinking after Miss Page repeatedly
turned down his proposals to marry him and on the evening of Jan. 18,
1903, he persuaded her to accompany him on a drinking spree. That -
night they both returned to her room at the brothe and spent the
night. Early the next morning other residents of the house heard

door. They found Miss Page dead, her head crushed by the blunt edge
of an axe and her throat cut. There were a number of cuts in Clark's
