In October, 1921, he entered the Oregon State-Prison to serve a 2-year
sentence for forgery from Lane County and was dismissed on April 26,
1923, after serving his sentence, less good time, In August, 1925, he
appeared in Independence, Ore., and, on several occasions hired a taxi
driven by Irvin Baun, one of.the owners of Baun Brothers Livery Co,,
to drive short distances out of town in search of work, He noticed
that Irvin Baun carried large sums of money and decided to rob him
and steal the cab. He made arrangements for Irvin to carry him to Al-
bany on the night of Sept. 1, 1925, but Irvin became sick and his bro-
ther and wrtner, Clinton F, Baun, 3l-years-old, made the trip instead,
About ten miles outside of Independence, on the Andependence-4Albany
road, the car developed trouble and Baun stepedd outside to check it.
When he started to reenter, Lloyd shot him three times and was in the
process of rifling his pockets when he saw the headlights of an a
approaching automobile and drove off in the taxi, Baun's body was
discovered almost immediately and when the taxi was found abandoned
