"In 1707 an Indian murderer imorisoned in
Fairfield (CT) was returned to the Indians to
be punished. He was hung at a plece called
'Gallows Hill' in the southwest part of the
town of New Milford: the place name was found
there when that town was first settled in 1710
and 'Gallows ‘Hill' was used as a reference
point in marking out the bourddries thereof,"
