MoGuire 9 alias John Burke, &.30«year-old white man, was a member of
the bandit gang that robbed the payroll automobile of the New York
Central Railroad of $12,000 in Youngstown, Ohio, on Jan. 17, 1921.
Two New York Central Detectives serving as payroll gua rds, Louis
Schroeder and A, H. Long, were killed when the bandits rammed the
payroll car with an automobile that they had stolen earlier in the
day and sprayed it with bullets, All of the bandits were captured
and convicted, but only two, McGuire and Royce Richardson, the only
black member of the gang were sentenced to death. Richardson was
electrocuted on July 1, 1921, but McGuire's electrocuthkon was delayed
until March 3, 1922 , when he, too, was executed at. the Ohio State
Prisone
