Fowler, a 26-year-old white man fell in love with Mamie
Hagerty who lived around the EESXSE corner from his mo-
_ ther in Dayton, Ohio, and he left his own family in Penn-~

sylvania dnd returned to Dayton to be near her. For B

years their affair continued, but Fowler was insanely

jealous of Miss Hagerty and served three terms in the

Dayton work house for assaults and battarys on her. He
had begged her to marry him which she refused to do. On

home to go to a nearby grocery, Fowler met her in the
