Black, electrocuted South Carolina State Prison (Spartan-
burg) on Dec. ll, 1920, Convicted of assault with intent
to ravish a young white woman, Crime occurred on Sept,
15, 1919, and tried and convicted in October term of
court, Victim a Miss Mabry, Maintained throughout trial
and appeal innocence with unproven alibi, After appeal
sentenced to die on Tuesday, Judge Townsend stating that
he considered Friday to holy a day for the execution of a
common criminal, On day of death made a confession and
his last words were: "I am guilty of the crime and the
lady told no stories about the way I did, She told the
