Devereaux, 23-years-old, and Heinlein, 2l-years-old, both residents of
Brighton, ,Mass., and McLaughlin, a 28-year-old resident of Brookline,
were all white men who joined a conspiracy led by McLaughlin's older
brother, Peter J, McDaughlin, to rob the receipts at the car barns of
the Middlesex and Boston Railroad Company for which Peter McLaughlin
was a former conductor, As a former employee, Peter McLaughlin knew
the layout of the barns asd was aware of the fact that the last trolley
arrived with its receipts at 1:38 in the morning, They rented a Stutz
automobile on Oct. 3, 1925, and hired an experience d driver without
telling him of the planned robbery, At 1:20 on the morning of Oct, h,
they drove up to the barns and the two McLaughlins and Heinlein went
$0 the second floor offices where the money was kept while Devereaux
held two employees at gun-point on the first floor, The three men up-
stairs were getting the money which totaled $1,529.75 when James H,
Ferneaux, the elderly night watchman, HMKRKKAXXMEXKRZKKK who was making
his rounds entered the first floor room where Devereaux was stationed,
When Furneaux resisted his orders to surrender his weapon, Devereaux
shot him in the leg and clubbed him into unconsciousness_with the butt

of his pistol. The four bandits fled. with the money while Furneaux
lay dying from a cerebral hemmorhage induced by the beating and loss
