PLUICE SCIENCE, Vol, 6, p 17, A négro was hanged in
Newport, Re I.y in 1679, and his remains exposed on
Miantonomy Hill, His source: Henry M, Brooks, STRANGE
AND CURLOUSPUNISHMENTS, The Olden Times Series, No. 5,
pp lh-15. :

"In 1679, Peter Py, a negro, was hung for the crime of

rape. His body hung in chains of Wonnomatonomy pa un=
