HAILWAGON, William
Hanged, Rock Island, illinois, on March 2h, 1682, for
killing his daughter-in-law, Dora Hailwagon on the night
of 9-5-1881. He went to her house and driving her out in
2 cornfield, struck her in the head with a hammer; Evi-
dence purely circumstantial and turned mostly upon state-
ments he made as to her absence, He asserted his innocenc
and in indirect terms accused his son, her husband, Was
LOmyears-old and bore a bad character, Protested his
innocence from gallows, saying his own son had Sought to
implicate him and succeeded in fastening crime upon him,
Expressed hope murderer would some day be caught,
