"Rusk, Texas, July Jf, 1910-Henry Henderson, alias Slick,
paid the penalty this afternoon of death at 2:16 o'clock
for the murder of E. C. Landrum, At 1:30 Sheriff Nor-
wood, with his deputies, heft the jail for the spot
where the gallows was erected, a distance of 4+ mile north
of town, They arrived at the scene with the prisoner at
1:45. The negro, Henderson, mounted the scaffold with-
out assistance and gave no signs of nervousness, Rev.
turner Brown and Rev. Sam Love, his two spiritual advis-
ers, ascended the scaffold with him, and after song ser-
vice and prayer Sheriff Norwood informed the prisoner he
was at liberty to make any statement he wished, He spoke
about 5 minutes, ‘The black Cap was then adjusted by the
sheriff, when the negro asked for another word, He was
given an opportunity and said that he wished to thank
