DiPofi, a 2-year-old white man, lived in Allegheney Co., Pae, where
he had a long police record consisting of sixteen maak pleas or con-
victions on burglary charges. On the night of March 5, 194.8, he and
two others broke into EKAXUHSXXUBXAAXKRMAXXKHXBAEK an unoccupied
dwelling house in Bethel Township. Their presence was noted and the
police were summoned, arriving in time to arrest all three while they
were inside the house, They all submitted to arrest but when they
got outside, DiPofi drew a pistol and covered the officers, He
Started backing away and ordered them to go to their car, They made
a break and DiPofi began firing with one bullet striking Policeman
Joseph Chemelynski, inflicting a wound from which he died four days
later. Convicted and sentenced to die, his case was appealed to the
Pennsylvania Supreme Court which affirmed the conviction and on Oct,
17, 1949, the United States Supreme Court denied a petition for a
writ of certiorari, He was electrocuted at the Pennsylvania State
Prison on January 9, 1950.
