Two slaves, the property of Mr. William Sullivan, were
accused of poisoning Mrs, Hlizabeth Crokett (in Montgomery
Co., Terme). Travis was acquitted; his son Kinchen was
adjudged guilty of murder and sentenced to be hanged on
June 8, 1821, A large crowd witnessed the execution de-
Spite the heavy rain which fell fran the time the priso-

ner was removed from the jail until the hanging was com-
pleted."
