a death sentence for horse stealing but was granted
a pardon on 2/23/80 on the condition that he# serve
in the Continental army. (It was very common in Mary-
land during the Revolution to commute death sentences
for crimes against property on such condition). How-
ever the man went right back to his old ways and at
