ing convicted of criminal assault and will pay the death
penalty on ‘arch 31, His trial began yesterday morning,

night, returning a verdict this morning at 7 o'clock,

the negro s victim was Mrs. Lizzie Overs treet, who lives
near Surrency, Ga. His guilt is based on circumstantial
ebidence, but the jury refused to recemmend him to mercy
although they were out all night. Nancy Brown, who was als
convicted with the crime and on whose testimony Ryals was
convicted, pleaded guilty to an assault and was given 12
months on the chaingang. The two were taken out on this
