| "A year to the day after he was arrested for the rape of

a young Memphis housewife, Van Gilmore, 31, negro, died in
the electric chair at the state penitentiary. Gilmore was
strapped in the chair at 5:20 AM, He was prnounced dead
at 5:23 AM, after one charge of current surged thru his
body, The negro acknowledged his guilt just before he

was strapped in the chair, He was convicted and sentenced
to die by a jury that deliberated only eight minutes, The
attack was HMR reported last April 17 by the 25-year-old
victim who said the negro apporached her car as it stalled
on a railroad crossing and forced her fo accompany him to
