WVILLAIN ESCAPED. = We learn by the last faena Vista, Gae,
VADE MECUM, that a negro fellow by the name of Sam, who
was confined in jail for an attempted rape on a white
girl, in that county, escaped from confinement on Monday
evening, the 13th. By reason of his complaining, he was
removed from the dungeon to one of the upper cells, and
while the jailor and attendant were conveying him his sup-
per, he rushed out of the door, and after clearing the
jail yard and being assisted by an armed white man, who
¢hreatened the jailor's life if resistance was offered

to the boy's escape, he made good his clearance on a hors
that had already been prepaved for him, The sheriff offer

a reward of $50 for the apprehension of the negro and $50
