"On the 17th instant a negro woman belonging to
Peter Demon Esq. and a negro man belonging to Major
McDonald were executed at Raritan pursuant to sentence
for setting fire to a barn, property of Mr. McDonald.
A young negro lad belonging to Mr. McDonald is to be
executed for being concerned in the crime. The latter
had stolen a gun from his master which he sold, but
being detected, was whipped. He told the above men-
tioned negroes who urged him to seek revenge by burning'
the barn and they would assist him which they did the
night of Sept. 20th last. The young negro in his con-
fession stated that the negro woman about ten years ago
set fire to her master's barn which was entirely con-
