then swallowed some of the opium but apparently recovered

Pennsylvania who had murdered a merchant called Amiel Bri-
cekll at the Golden Hagae Hotel on April 26, 1855. Brick-
ell had learned his daughter Harriet had pledged herself ij
marriage to Garrett, and this incensed the father, namely
