"Albany, NY: July 15: On Saturday the 22nd of
June, two mén were executed at Albany for the
murder of one Johannes Smith, a liver about
eight miles above that place. They behaved
With much sorrow and died seemingly verypeni-
tent." PENSYLVANIA GAZETTE, Philadelphia, Pa,
July 18, 1751. Sent by Hearn who notes: "This
paper is picking up on an unidentified New York
paper dated July 15 which apparently no longer
exists. Place of execution would have been
'Tyburn Hill' in albany, where the New York
State Cultural Center now stands. It was the
site of one of only two permanent gallows in
pre-Revolutionary New York,"
