shot and killed Ella Welch, a mlatto, aged 1, early

this morning and attemp ed suicide by cutting his throat,
Davis, it is alleged, assaulted the girl and because she
was going to tell her mother, shot her with a shotgun,

The girl died a few minutes later, Davis fled and when
about to be captured,by officers, cut his throat with a
barlow knife, He will recover, Indignation against the
negro is very bitter, He is being guarded at the hespital
