According to "The Philadelphia Gibbet Iron," by Thorsten
Sellin, THE JOURNAL OF CRIMINAL LAW, CRIMINOLOGY AND
POLICE SCIENCE, Volume 6, page 17, an Indian was execu-
ted in Newport, RI, on Sept. 12, 1712, and his body
hanged in chains on Miantonomy Hill, where the remains

were still hanging as late as 1775 when Mecum was executed
His source: Henry M, Brooks, STRANGE AND CURIOUS PUNISH-

MENTS, The Olden Times Series, no, 5, 1886, pp ll-15,

"In 1712, an Indian was executed for the murder of two song
of Gyles Slocum of Portsmouth, This indian was also
