ticeable. On the night of Jan. 16, Page and a colored
woman named Nancy Smith, who was his paramour, murdered
Rosa Haywood with whom they were lodging and stole a
small sum of money w hich she had in her house. Both

were convicted of the crime and the Smith woman was given

broke down and sobbed as he was being led to the gallows

and had to be assisted to the place, Prayer was offered
by a clergyman after which Page prayed himself in a ramb~
ling way for 5 minutes, avowing his hope and faith in his
salvation. After the noose and cap had been placed, he
made a sign that he wished to Speak and they were removed,

He said that he hopedto met all of his friends in Glory
and then shook hands with the officers and said goodbye,
