ters; Lef unit without authority on 8/3/1861 ;
Captured in late September; while confined he
threatened Maj. Bart Lieper, 1st Ky., and on 8
Obt attempted escape, assaulting a guard;
Court Martialed with Gen. Jacob B, Cox presiding
and Maj. Rutherford B. Hayes (23rd Ohio) as
alee advocate (Hayes later Pres, of US); In

pressed hope sentence would be commuted. Case
mentioned in Cox's MILITARY REMINISCENCES, At
