Tweerl and Andrew Groundwater received sentence.of death
and were yesterday executed (3-17-1779)." SOUTH CAROLINA

"Charleston, Mar. ll, 1779-William Tweed, Andrew Groundwa-
ter and John Wewar were this day tried for sedition under
three clauses of the (?) Act I for attempting’ to join and
persuading others to join with hostile intent, the enemies
forces in Georgia to subvert the government of this state;
2) for holding correspondence with and giving allegiance
to the enemy by notes, memorandum and instructions directed
to Colonels Camp and Jones in Georgia; 3) for inducing a
negro man to slave, the property of Thomas Walter, Esae,
to desert his master's service to join the enemy's; When
after a long and (?) trial of 10 hours, Tweed was found
guilty on every chrage in the indictment, Groundwater
