The murder for which Biscoe was twice convieted after two
trials, was committed on the Potomac River, near the mouth
of Machodoe Creek, August 28, 1886. Captain Dixon was
sailing the sloop Mary J, with Biscoe as a hand and they
were the only people on the boat. Biscoe claimed that he
acted in self-defense, the captain having attacked him
with a drawing knife and threatened to kill him."
