GREEN, Henry G.

Green, a 22-year-old white man, was the son of a prominent and well-
to-do Berlin, New York family. Early in 185, he attended a temper-
ance show and became infatuated with the young star, Mary Ann Wyatt,
He left his employment and joined the temperance troupe to be near
Miss Wyatt who he persuaded to marry him on Feb, 10, 185. They re-
turned to Berlin where his mother rapidly made it plain that she did
not approve of the match and considered the girl beneath her son.
Nonetheless, he planned a sleigh ride composed of all of his old
friends, During the course of the ride, one of his former girl
friends, the daughter of wealthy Perlin parents, stated that she had
once had hopes of marrying Green hers#lf, Whether it was this or his
mother's active disapproval of the match MAXXXHREARXKEXKKEX or a com-
bination of the two will never be known, but Green returned from the
match a changed man, When Mary Ann came down with a cold the next
day, Green obtained medicine from the druggist which he insisted on
giving her himself, Instead of medication, he fed her arsenic and,
less than one week from the date of her marriage, she died in a; cone,

Green was speedily tried, convicted and sentenced +o hang and on
september 10, 185, he was executed at Troyes
