Babich, a % 5h<year-old native of Russia had migrated to the United
States in 1912, settling in Warren, 0. He quarreled with his wife
Barbara constantly after their marriage in 19116, throwing a hatchet
at her on several different occasions and shooting her in the leg

one time which resulted in the amputation of the leg. For this last
offense, Babich served 32 months in the Ohio Penitentiary. On Dec,
5) 1938, following another lengthy quarrel with his wife, Babich,

who psychologists BXRH said had the mind of an imbecile with the

hatchet and a razor, He then cut the throat of a neighbor, Dan
Gross, who he mistakenly blamed for having had him removed from a

Both his son and his daughter testified against him at his trial
and after he received the death sentence, his 17-year-old daughter
