been bad blood between them and reclaimed his revolver
earlier in day from repair shop saying he was going to
shoot "eyebrows and toe-nails" off Bloung. Later pulled
goat off and tried to get Blount to fight but he refused.
About 2 hrs before crime, proprietor of Mechanics! Hotel
offered to keep pistol till he cooled down, but he re-
fused saying he planned to use it. Met Blount on street
& began quarreling but Blount refused and asked him to
go into saloon for drink, Cook refused and continued
abuse, Blount said he was gH#xX tempted to "smash your
nose" and Cook asked if he meant it, When Wlount replied
