Robinson, a Wilmington, N. C., black man wask captured shortly after
a young student nurse was raped while returning home from church on
the night of 4ug. 12, 1925, She identified him and he did not deny
that he was guilty. After he was tried and sentenced to death, he
confessed that he had attacked the young white woman and promised the
Sheriff that he would send him a letter from the “tate Prison giving
full details. Just before his execution, the Sheriff went there and
talked with him, hoping that he would confess to having perpetrated
certain other neotred crimes that had occured in the same neighbor-
hood. At this time, Robinson denied that he was the rapist and de-
ASH nied that he had ever confessed. It was necessary for guards to
take him in to the dea th chamber as he was literally terrified at
the prospects of being electrocuted. His last words were a denial
of his guilt. He was electrocuted on Oct, 2, 1925,
