Flygn, sa 30-year-old white man, was a native of RIE who emigrated
to-the- Gees States in 1839, In 186, he was-employed by Robert
James, a drover, who brought cattle into New York from the west and
sold them. During the month of August they arrived with a herd and
James Left Flynn in charge, directing him to sell them and attend
to some other business while he returned west for another herd of
cattle. On the evening of August 13, 186, James stopped at a tavern
in the town of Durham and made arrangements -Fe-stay—the-night,—Wwhile
he was turning his horse loose in a pasture, he was shot from ambush,
receiving a wound from which he died on August 15, A man fitting
