On the night of Jan. 27, 1938, he and his brother-in-law, Chester
Francis attempted to rob a Hamilton service station and were caught
in the act by Hamilton patrolman Aaron Laubach who refused to obey
their command to "Stick ‘em up" and thied to shoot it out. They
fatally wounded Laubach and escaped. They were captured in West
Elkton on the night of Feb, 19 as they attempted to rob a service
station there. Both were armed and both confessed to the robbery
in Hamilton at which Laubach was killed shortly after their arrest.
Francis pleaded guilty and received a life sentence, Cline pleaded
not guilty by reason of insanity and stood trial. He was found
sane and guilty and sentenced to die. He was electrocuted at the
Ohio State Prison on Feb. 1, 1939, and walked to his death with no
wisible show of emotion,
