Letter from Hearn dated 2/5/1990 states: “An old lady in
Blymouth said that when she was a girl she heard the
country folk out Bristol way tell a gaastly tale of a
wOman who was executed thereabout in ' the distant Past'
According to the story the father of an illegitimate
child refused to acknowledge his paternity and bagked out
of a marriage promise whereupon the mother avenged hersel
on him by killing the baby and preparing it in a stew
which she fed to the evasive father, Its not hard to
imagine that a crime @f such extreme heinousness would
{mbed intself in the local folklore."
