tried and convicted before the Honorable Supremes Court
of Rhode Island, at their March term, 1832, of the mrde
of John Burke and Hannah Frank in Burrillville, (RI)
Sept. 11, 1831, Andby said court sentenced to be hang-
ed on Friday, the first day of June, 1832, Taken from
his own mouth, in the presence of Stephen Wilmarth,
Hsqes Jailereee. Providence, 1832 (Copy at New York
Historical Society.) 16 pages, Walmsley was the son of
a half-blood Indian of the Narraganset tribe and had the
Indians' weakness for liquor. He also felt ‘shut out by
my complexion and the ignominy which the world has cast
upon the tribe to which I belong,' After a drinking
