"Forsyth, Gae, Septe 19, 190l-Smith Brooks (negro) was

Judge Joe Me Maddox on the 2oth of June last. Brooks went
to Maddox's store with an open knife and fencnace a
settlement of his account. The latter ordered him from
the store when Brooks sprang at him stabbing him in the
heart and killing him almost instantly. The trap was
sprung at 11:20 and the attending physician pronounced
Brooks dead at 11:30, There was no excitement of any kind,!
