"Alabama's Gov. James E, Folsom Thursday refused an appeal|
| for clemency for Israel Garrett, lS-year-old Russell Co. _
| Negro who has twice been convicted of murder, and ordered
the Negro put to death in the electric chair at Kilby Pri-!
son shortly after midnight Thursday. Garrettm sentenced |
to death for the 19):5 slaying of a Negro woman, Ruby Tolli.-
ver, near Crawford, admitted killing his wife in 193 2, but
denied his guilt of the second crime, At the time he al-
legedly killed the Tolliver woman » he was on parole from a
life sentence, the Associated Press reported." Electrocu-
ted on May 23, 1917.
